My Tho is the capital city of Tien Giang Province, located in the Mekong Delta region of South Vietnam. Touring this city is very easy and not very expensive but you will get the full experience. There are many exciting endeavors that you can dive into.
1. Motorcycle Riding
Riding a motorcycle is very common in Vietnam. The route between cities are crawling with beautiful small towns which is a site to behold. Even an hour and a half ride will be very exciting.
2. Sunset Sighting Over the Rach Mieu Bridge
This city offers some beautiful sunset views. One is around the Rach Mieu bridge where the two rivers meet. There is a small park there where most of the food vendors are set up.
3. Mekong Delta Boat Trip
The boat trip in My Tho is a must. It’s the most common reason to visit this city. The boat carries you through rural areas and some of the most beautiful water scenery. These trips are administrated by the many agencies there.
4. Vinh Triang Temple
A kilometer off of My Tho city is the Vinh Triang Temple, a Buddhist temple dating back to 1849. The beautiful greens surrounding this temple are a sight to behold. This pagoda’s architecture brings together the Chinese, Vietnamese, Khmer and Europeans. There are many statues inside including the statue of Amitabha. The temple does welfare work for the homeless and disabled children and accept donations.
5. My Tho Market
My Tho market is one of the busiest areas in the city. There are wide variety of food ranging from fish to fruits and veggies to rice. The fish is very scarce in this area and takes a lot of time to prepare but is worth it. You can find this place at its busiest after dark, or before dark even as early as 6 am. This market is a must visit for those who are foodies.
6. Visiting Ho Chi Minh City
Alright, Ho Chi Minh City is a totally different city from My Tho, but as it is in Mekong Delta too and is also the best tourist attraction of the country, it deserves a visit. So, take time from your My Tho trip and experience Ho Chi Minh City.
7. Dong Tam Snake Park
Dong Tam is a zoo especially for snakes located in Chau Thanh District, 12 km from My Tho. The zoo is under the military management. Lots of snakes, even poisonous, are found there like copperhead, cobra, python etc. It’s more of a snake museum than a zoo. This zoo is very small and does not offer much activity but if you are into snakes and want to see them up close and personal then this is the place to go.
8. Con Phung Island
One of the four famous island is Con Phung Island set amid the My Tho river. It is known for its beautiful landscapes and locals. Recently this island has attracted lots of tourists. Tourists have lots of activities to explore like coconut candy, eating southern food and chatting with the locals. You may also get a chance to witness the preparation of the coconut candy. The locals there are also very crafty and have lots of handicrafts scattered around the island.
